ALFRED FREDERICK CHARLES HOCKRIDGE 1899

Alfred was born in 1899 (1) in Cardiff. As far as I can tell he did not marry.

Alfred was killed during WW1. His Casualty details were given as private 94462, Royal Army Medical Corps. He died on 29 Oct 1918 and is buried in Wenvoe (St Mary) Churchyead Extension. (2)

Alfreds name also appears of the Whichchurch Cenotaph - WW1 Casualties 1914-1918

Known to the troops as a Dead Man's Penny

It was decided during World War One that all next of kin of service personnel who lost their lives as a result of the war would be presented with a memorial plaque and commemorative scroll from the King and country. The plaques were cast in bronze and were approximately five inches (125 mm) in diameter. On the plaque itself no rank was given as the intention was to show equality in their sacrifice

This plaque would have been sent to Charles & Elizabeth.
