Benjamin Richard Hockridge was born 1873 (1) in Plympton or Oreston, Devon. He did not use his name Benjamin but was known as Richard. He married Caroline Johns in 1898.(3)

Caroline Johns was born 1876 (2) in Plymouth, Devon. Her parents are John and Eliza Johns. In the 1881 Census the Johns family were living at the same address as Benjamin's family.

Benjamin worked as a Labourer, by 1901 he and Caroline had two children.
