Charles was born on 29 Feb 1868 (1) in Bideford. Charles was brought up by his grandparents Thomas Hockridge and Mary Clements following his mothers death. He lived at Burnstone Farm until 1876 when his Grandather died. He and his Grandmother Mary then moved to Hartland. By 1891 he had left home and was living with John Dell and Grace (nee Hockridge) in Ilfracombe. John had a Confectioners and Charles was working as his assistant. This is probably where he met Louisa and they both moved to Cardiff.

Charles married Louisa Tamlyn on 5 October 1895 (2) . Witnesses to the marriage were John and Elizabeth Brooks. At the time of their marriage the certificate shows Charles living at 196 Cairne Street, Cathays, Cardiff. Louisa was living next door at 194 Cairne Street.

Louisa Tamlyn was born on 3 Aug 1868 (1) in East Down, Devon. Her parents are John Tamlyn and Elizabeth Nancekivell. She was the twin of Lucy Tamlyn.

Charles died 22 Nov 1945 (4) in the Royal Infirmany, Cardiff following an accident, he was 77 years old. His death certificate says he died of "Shock due to extensive burns accidently sustained through his clothing becoming ignited whilst lighting a piece of paper at an open grate fire." Louisa died on 21 Feb 1957 (4) aged 89, at this time she was with her son Reginald at 27 Inverness Place, Cardiff.
