DAMARIS HOCKRIDGE 1787

 

Damaris was baptised on 6 Apr 1787 (1) in Morwenstow. She married Thomas Ching on 28 Mar 1825 (2) in Clovelly, The couple were both of Clovelly, Thomas signed his name and Damaris made her mark. Witnesses to the marriage were Thomas Shortridge and Susan Prince.

Thomas Ching was born about 1790 (3) - no baptism has been found and his year of birth is taken from his age at the time of his death.

Thomas and Damaris settled in Clovelly. Thomas in 1851 was a farmer of 150 Acres but he must have fell on hard times and he is described in the 1871 Census as a Pauper. As far as I can find Thomas and Damaris only had one child.

Thomas died in 1873 (4) aged 83, Damaris died in 1870 (5) aged 82.
