JOHN HENRY HOCKRIDGE 1836

 

John was born 1 Mar 1836 and baptised 16 March 1836 (1) in Kilkhampton, Cornwall. He left England for Canada sometime between 1851 and 1856, He married Elizabeth Ann Peat on 6 Sep 1860 in Bowmanville.

Elizabeth Ann Peat was born 15 Feb 1840 (2) in Devon.

John was a Wagon Maker, He and Elizabeth had 3 children. The 1901 Census shows Elizabeth living with her son William, she gives her year of entry into Canada as 1851.

The Bradford Public Library's vital statistics database shows the following details for John & Elizabeth's deaths.

John H Hockridge died 6 Sep 1900 (3) aged 64 years, 6 months. Died of Brights disease. A carriage maker by trade. Born in Kilkhampton, Cornwall on March 1st 1836, the eldest son of John Chichester Hockridge. Settled in Bradford in 1856, after first going to Bowmanville and Newmarket. Married Miss Elizabeth Ann Peat of Bowmanville in 1860, and he died on the day of their fortieth anniversary. Brother of Mr William Hockridge, of Cobourg and Mrs Mcelwin, of Toronto and has another brother and sister in England. Survived by his widow and three children. Mrs McKay, Mrs Whiteside and W J Hockridge. Interred at Mount Pleasant.

Elizabeth Ann Hockridge died 4 Mar 1909 (3) aged 69. Born in Devonshire, England. Came to Canada when she was nine years old and spent her first nine years in Bowmanville. Lived in Bradford with her husband for fifty years. Mother of Mrs McKay, Mrs Whiteside, and Willie, from the West. Also survived by her mother's sister Mrs Buckler, who is 94 years old, and lives in Bowmanville, and her brother Mr Richard Peat, of Jamestown, New Jersey. Interred in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, next to her husband John.

John Hockridge died Sep 1 1900, aged 64 years. Native of Cornwall. Elizabeth A Peate beloved wife of John Hockridge died March 2 1900, aged 68 years.

William Hockridge 1866 - 1914

George McKay grandson of the late John Hockridge died Aug 25 1907, in his 28th year. Lucretia McKay died June 5 1912, in her 54th year.
