JOSEPH HOCKRIDGE 1782

Joseph was baptised on 15 Aug 1782 (1) in Welcombe, Devon. He was married twice. His first marriage was to Grace Harward on 25 Aug 1804 (2) in Kilkhampton, Cornwall. (On his son Joseph's Birth Certificate his name is given as Joseph Jewell Hockridge).

Grace Harward was born about 1781, I have not found her baptism so her year of birth is taken from the age given at the time of her death.

Joseph and Grace had 6 children.

Grace died in 1830 she was buried in Clovelly, Devon on 23 Jan 1830 (3) aged 49 years. During his marriage to Grace, Joseph had an affair with Mary Mugford, they had a son

Joseph's second marriage was to Mary Braggington on 22 Mar 1837 (1) in Clovelly, Devon. Both signed their names. Witnesses to the marriage were Mary Ann Nancekivell and John Nancekivell.

Mary Braggington was born about 1801.(4)

Joseph and Mary had three children.

Joseph Hockridge * Born 20 Sep 1839 (5) in Clovelly (I do now know why Joseph does not appear on the 1841 Census - Can find no GRO for Ann but there are two entries for Joseph so perhaps they were twins. Can only assume Enumerator left Joseph off Census. His birth certificate gives his mothers name as Mary Bragaton (she made her mark).

Joseph was buried in Clovelly on 8 Aug 1847 (3) aged 65 years.
