LAURINA HOCKRIDGE 1857

Laurina was born 1857 (1) in Cardiff. She went to Australia aboard the ship Great Queensland. The Great Queensland departed London on 5 Aug 1875, arriving in Maryborough on 18 Nov 1875. Laurinas age was given as 18.

Laurina married George Mills in 1876 (2) in Queensland, Australia. (3) Family sources advise that George and Laurina had met aboard the Great Queensland and promised to marry as soon as George had enough gold to support a family. On arrival in Australia George set off for the Newcastle gold fields, Gympie, Queensland. The couple then married and settled in Pimpama where had the first of their six sons. From Pimpama the family moved to Gilston where they acquired a grant of land on the Nerang River, land still owned by the family today.
